When it’s time to leave military service, you might wonder, what’s next? Cybersecurity is a burgeoning field for veterans to enter into. The demand for trained cybersecurity talent is high, and the supply is still low. Veterans possess many of the traits that cybersecurity employers seek—knowledge of technology, security clearance, knowledge of security procedures, systematic training skills, ability to make quick decisions, and a passion for defending your country.

Cybersecurity jobs do require training and education, however. There are free and reduced-cost cybersecurity training and courses offered for veterans. If you are interested in obtaining a certificate or degree from a college or university, however, costs can skyrocket quickly. It has been estimated that the average cost of a cybersecurity bachelor’s degree is $20,000.

Official Rules for Veterans Cybersecurity Scholarship

In order to encourage veterans to pursue cybersecurity education, is pleased to announce that we have created a Veterans Cybersecurity Scholarship. This scholarship, designed specifically for veterans, offers $1000 per year to a veteran who is currently enrolled in a qualifying cybersecurity program. Applications must be submitted to Candidates must follow the application instructions.

Selection Criteria for Veterans Cybersecurity Scholarship has formed a scholarship selection committee that will review and consider each application for the Veterans Cybersecurity Scholarship. Each applicant will be measured by past academic performance, extracurricular activities, history of employment, and strength of the essay. Detailed criteria that will be used to select the scholarship winner include:

  • Completed registration, with each part of the process followed accordingly
  • Essay – Essays should be formatted and well-written
  • Work history and activities – these should include legitimate experiences only
  • GPA – the value of academic performance is emphasized, with a minimum of 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale necessary in order to be considered for this scholarship

Veterans Cybersecurity Scholarship Application Deadlines

The deadline to apply for the Veterans Cybersecurity Scholarship is January 15th.

Announcing the Winner

Winners of the Veterans Cybersecurity Scholarship will be announced within 30 days of the closing of the application deadline. Winners will be notified via email. The scholarship award will be paid in one installment of a $1000 payment, via check, directly to the qualifying educational program in which the winner is enrolled. The award will be paid to the educational program within three months of the day that the winner is notified.
